French Wire, also known as 'Gimp' and 'Bullion' is used to cover and protect bead cord from friction and breakage at the clasp area. By covering the ends of the bead cord, Bullion Wire fortifies the silk beading cord and also gives the design a professional finish.
French Wire is tiny, coiled wire that covers the silk (or other stringing material) at the clasp when knotting pearls or beads. To use: cut two matching pieces of French Wire between 1/4” and 3/8” depending on the size of the clasp rings, and use it both when beginning and ending a knotted or strung strand.
